The Asthma Patient from Hell

Aug 29, 2024

The ambulance phone rings. They are 5 minutes away with a 32 yo patient with history of asthma who has had two hours of shortness of breath and wheeze. She has a heart rate of 120bpm, a respiratory rate of 40, a systolic blood pressure of 100 mm Hg and saturations of 93% and her GCS is 13-14.

Patients die due to complacency....be prepared.

On arrival this patient was tripoding with marked dyspnoea and paradoxical chest wall movements. She was pale, clammy, confused and tired.

Watch this great lecture by Dr Sam Bendall presented at EMCORE Sydney 2021.
